FAQ
What is the Lanier Striper Club?
The Lanier Striper Club (LSC) is a membership organization of anglers interested in fishing for striped bass on Lake Sydney Lanier. We hold monthly meetings, monthly fishing outings, and hold an annual open tournament called the Fun Fest. LSC fishing outings are "green", and catch and release is encouraged by not required. Members are encouraged to participate in fishing outings, but it is not a requirement.
One of the club's goals is to contribute to the Lake Lanier area. The club and its members help support organizations like Get Kids Fishing, GON SEEDS, the COE's children's pond, and support of the DNR's equipment needs.
When and where are club meetings held?
The club holds dinner meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. The Dam Store on Buford Dam Rd. is the primary meeting location, although during hotter months we occasionally move the meetings to another location for the comfort of our members. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. but members arrive early, generally between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. for dinner. The cost of the Dam Store meeting dinners is an additional $10 and is not covered by the monthly dues. The dinner is optional for those who do not wish to participate.
Where and when are monthly fishing outings held and what is the format?
Fishing outings are held on the Saturday following the monthly meeting, with adjustments made for holidays and conflicting events. The hours vary depending upon season, lake traffic, and weather. Times are generally from safe light until mid-day. Times are discussed at the meeting prior to the tournament, but the final decision is made by the tournament director. The unit of measure for these tournaments is by length instead of by weight. All contestants must take a legible photograph of their catch and include a specific tournament day number in the photo. Payout for the tournaments are based upon the number of boats entered. There is also an optional big fish and big spot pot. The cost to enter the tournament is only $10.00 per boat, with the optional big fish and big spot pot being $5.00 each. The "weigh-in" location varies depending upon the season, but is usually held at a location that allows members to enjoy a meal and fellowship after the tournament.
Do I have to own a boat or be an experienced fisherman to participate?
No, club membership is open to anyone wishing to learn more about striper fishing on Lake Lanier. Our members range from the novice to professional guides. Sharing and learning is a big part of what the club is all about. If you would like to participate in the club tournament but lack either a boat or a partner, the tournament director will work with other participants to connect you with another member or team.
How much does it cost to join?
We are currently waiving our initiation fee and the monthly membership is a very reasonable $60.00 per year. Tournament costs are additional, as are dinners.
What do I need to do to join?
Come to one of our meetings. The LSC is open to the public and does not have any pre-requisites for membership. Do not hesitate to visit us for a meeting or two before you make up your mind.
Is there someone I can contact to get more information before I join?
Contact club president Buck Cannon at (404) 510-1778 or use the contact tab on the website and we will get back to you.
